My Possums
I have two kittens I’d like to cling on to the word ‘kittens’ and say that they are still babies but their sizes portray an entirely different image. They are very large. We got them from the same litter so I was able to visit them and see how they interacted with each other three or four times before I picked them up to live with me. There were several girls and one boy in the litter; I chose the boy and one of the girls. The first time I saw them they were so tichy and shy.
They were unaware of their size and apparently each other, which I gathered from the way they walked on top of as well as around each other to get from one side of the room to the other. When they were old enough to be separated from their mother, we went to pick them up. In the taxi cab on the way home, they were very noisy. This was totally understandable as they must have been terrified. They were both in a cat carry which they no longer fit into. When we got home that day they became very quiet. We opened the cat carry to allow them to come out of it in their own time so that they would feel comfortable and at home rather than forced to out into a strange new environment.
I had read that we should feed them the same food they were used/accustomed to eating before we got them so we bought whiskers kitten food. The same applies to the cat litter they should use as their mother would already have trained them to use it from when they were born. So we were prepared with Catsan cat litter and a new litter tray and new bowls for their food and water. They came out very slowly and the boy, who is predominantly white, was more adventurous than his shy sister who is predominantly black. To be different, and taking into consideration the fact that cats will not respond to any name we give them, unless that name is associated with food, we named them The Boy and The Girl.
The vet was surprised. Anyway, soon after we got them the girl seemed a little down. So we took them both to the vet in a minicab for a check up and told the vet that the girl wasn’t too well. The vet picked up the boy and we said, ‘No no that’s the girl’ and she said ‘No this is a girl’ and we responded ‘Oh’ and she said ‘Yes you have two female kittens.’ We felt cheated but we love them both. They’re fat but I shall explain their obesity in my next blog, should I choose to write another.
Tomorrow I might be busy. I have been thinking of how to get to the airport. I am going to find a company that does Stansted Airport transfers.
